“Naftogaz” increased electricity purchases from Europe to stabilize the power system

NAC Naftogaz increased electricity imports from Europe this week in order to stabilize the situation in the country’s energy system. This was announced by Serhiy Koretskyi, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine.

The import of electricity was increased in accordance with the government’s decision. At present, the purchase volumes cover more than 50 percent of the needs of all enterprises of the Naftogaz Group, which meets the requirements of the government resolution.

“The appropriate amount of electricity has been released for the needs of household consumers,” Koretsky added.

The situation in the energy sector remains tense. According to the Security Service of Ukraine, since the beginning of this heating season, Russian troops have attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure 256 times. After a series of massive strikes in the energy sector, a state of emergency was introduced, which included, among other things, easing the curfew, extending school holidays, and other measures.

On the night of January 24, Russian troops again launched a massive attack on Ukraine. Kyiv and Kyiv region, Sumy region, Kharkiv region and Chernihiv region were under attack, while the main focus of attacks remained Kyiv region. In the energy system of the capital and the region, the main targets of the Russians were energy infrastructure facilities.
