NBU to sue Poroshenko’s IIB for violations in the field of financial monitoring

The National Bank of Ukraine announced its intention to defend in court the legality of the influence measure applied to JSC “International Investment Bank” (MIB), the ultimate beneficiary of which is Petro Poroshenko. This is a written warning for violating the requirements of legislation in the field of preventing and countering the legalization of proceeds of crime and the financing of terrorism, informs NBU press office.

“The National Bank will defend in court the legality of the measure of influence applied to JSC “MIB” in the form of a written warning for violating the requirements of legislation in the field of prevention and counteraction of legalization (laundering) of proceeds obtained through crime, financing of terrorism and financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, contested by this bank in court.”, the message says.

In February 2025, the NBU established that the bank improperly fulfilled the obligation to apply a risk-oriented approach in its activities, which violated the norms of the law on AML/FT. This became one of the reasons for issuing a warning.

The second violation was that the bank did not provide truthful information to the requests of the National Bank. In particular, it was about the documents needed by the regulator for supervision in the field of financial monitoring and verification of possible violations.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs disagreed with the NBU’s decision and filed a lawsuit challenging the written warning. Now the National Bank is preparing to defend the legality of its decision in court.

We will remind that in February, information appeared that the “International Investment Bank” may lose its securities trading license due to the sanctions imposed against the ex-president. This issue is currently being considered by the National Commission for Securities and the Stock Market (NCSCFR).
