NCRECP obliges distribution system operators to improve communication with the population regarding power outages
The National Commission for State Regulation in the Fields of Energy and Utilities (NKREKP), turned to to distribution system operators (DSOs) with the requirement to provide timely and reliable information to consumers about power outages. This decision was prompted by numerous complaints from consumers about improper communication, including the lack of accurate data on volumes and schedules of outages.
“The situation with interruptions in electricity supply was the result of numerous attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, which led to a shortage of power”, – explained in the NCRECP.
The regulator noted that shutdowns are necessary to balance the system and protect power equipment from overvoltage.
In order to reduce social tension and comply with the principle of social justice, the NCRECP calls on the SSR to improve consumer information in accordance with Resolution No. 349 of March 26, 2022, which regulates the protection of information under martial law.
The regulator also warned the operators of personal liability for violating the principle of non-discrimination when applying unloading shutdowns. Consumers are encouraged address to OSR in the case of detection of inaccurate information about outage schedules, so that they can promptly update the data.
