Orban responded to Zelensky’s statement about “a slap on the back of the head for every Victor”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly criticized European politicians who, according to him, act in favor of Russia and neglect Europe’s common values. In his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he made a transparent allusion to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, using the figurative wording of a “head-scraper”.
Zelensky said that there are forces within Europe that are trying to undermine the unity of the continent, and such actions must be resisted. He stressed that politicians who take advantage of the European community but at the same time sell out its interests deserve a tough response.
“Every Viktor who lived on Europe’s money and tried to sell out European interests deserves a slap on the back of the head. And if he feels comfortable in Moscow, this does not mean that we should allow European capitals to turn into small Moscows,” — Zelensky said, referring to Orban.
The Prime Minister of Hungary reacted to this statement and criticized the President of Ukraine, accusing him of a lack of results in ending the war. In a post on social media, Orban said that an understanding between them is unlikely.
“It seems we will not be able to understand each other. I am a free person who serves the Hungarian people. You are in a desperate situation, because for four years you have been unable to end the war due to inability or unwillingness, despite widespread support from the US president, — wrote Orban.
At the same time, the Hungarian leader confirmed that his country would not support Ukraine’s military actions, but assured of its readiness to continue humanitarian and energy assistance.
“The Ukrainian people, despite your insults, can still count on us to supply electricity and fuel and support refugees from Ukraine. Everything else in life will count, and everyone will get what they deserve”, — Viktor Orbán stated.
