Part of the cargo from China will be sent to Europe through Ukraine

Part of the cargoes that are headed by the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM) and connect China with Europe are planned to be sent through Ukraine. About this reported director of commercial work and logistics of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” Tymofiy Murakhovskyi.

According to him, UZ has been participating in this project for six months. One of the steps for its implementation will be the registration of the company “UZ Cargo East” in Kazakhstan. At the same time, the “Hero Plevna” and “Hero Shipka” ferries, which were previously planned to be transferred to the State Property Fund of Ukraine as non-core assets, will be involved in transportation.

“A meeting of the supervisory board was held, at which it was agreed to create a new legal entity “UZ Cargo East” in Kazakhstan. This enterprise will work along the route of the middle corridor connecting China and Europe through Ukraine,” Murakhovsky explained.

It is planned that the “Hero Plevna” and “Hero Shipka” ferries will carry container trains from the Caspian ports to Baku, and from there – from the Georgian port of Poti to Odesa. Then the cargo will go to Europe.

“We will become an operator not only of railway transportation, but also of sea transportation. The ultimate goal is to create a corridor that will provide our customers with a full range of services for transporting goods from China to Europe.” Murakhovsky noted.

At present, China and Europe are connected by several main transport routes, one of which is the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM), or the so-called “middle corridor”. It passes through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, providing an alternative to the northern route through Russia.
