Poland will involve military units to guard the borders

Poland is strengthening border protection with Germany and Lithuania. The military will be deployed to support the Border Patrol to control migrant flows and improve security. reports this by the National Security Bureau of Poland.

The President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, signed a resolution on the involvement of units of the Armed Forces to assist the border guard at the borders with Germany and Lithuania.

According to the document, additional military personnel will ensure the inviolability of the state border in the areas of border crossings. Their presence is planned from October 5, 2025 to April 4, 2026 — the period during which Poland has extended temporary border control with these countries.

In a separate order, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk engaged the Military Gendarmerie to support border guards on the border with Germany for the entire period of temporary control.

Border controls with Germany and Lithuania were first introduced on July 7, 2025, and this week they were extended until April next year. Within the framework of the restored control, Polish border guards, with the support of the police and the military, are given the right to stop certain vehicles for inspection. The government explains the measures as necessary to reduce the uncontrolled flow of migrants and increase security in the border regions.
