President of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences removed from office on suspicion of committing a crime

At the request of the Office of the General Prosecutor of the President of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine temporarily suspended from the position held. He is a suspect in criminal proceedings.

Under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the State Bureau of Investigation conducts a pre-trial investigation into the case concerning the suspicion of the president of the National Academy of Sciences of aiding and abetting the embezzlement of budget funds committed by a group of persons based on a prior conspiracy (Part 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

During the investigation, it was established that the official facilitated the fictitious employment of his personal driver for four formal positions at controlled state-owned agricultural enterprises. At the same time, the driver actually performed only the functions of a personal chauffeur, and his salary — more than 200,000 hryvnias — was received from the state budget.

As part of the proceedings, the Prosecutor General’s Office submitted to the court a petition for the temporary suspension of the official, which was granted by the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv. Also, the court partially supported the prosecution’s initiative regarding a preventive measure, imposing on the suspect a list of duties in accordance with Article 194 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

In connection with the mildness of the selected preventive measure, the prosecutor’s office filed an appeal, believing that there are reasonable risks of the suspect’s influence on the further course of the investigation. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
