Romania introduces additional licences for Ukrainian goods

Romania decided to expand the list of goods from Ukraine, the import of which now requires obtaining a special license. This step was taken after numerous complaints from Romanian farmers about dumping prices for Ukrainian products, which create serious problems for local producers.

As informs Euractiv, Romania’s Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, emphasized that poultry producers were particularly affected. Ukrainian eggs and poultry meat are sold at prices that are significantly lower than the cost price of Romanian products, which negatively affects the competitiveness of local companies. In this regard, the government has decided to add these goods to the list of products whose import is allowed only with a license.

The minister emphasized that there is no provision for a complete ban on the import of Ukrainian eggs and meat. Licenses will be issued only in case of shortage of these products on the domestic market, which will balance the interests of Romanian farmers and consumers.

This decision was a continuation of the measures that Romania began to implement back in October 2023, when licensing was introduced for the import of grain and oil crops from Ukraine and Moldova. This step was due to the fact that the European Commission did not extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain to a number of neighboring EU countries.
