The SBI exposed a colonel of the medical service who illegally provided combat payments to his wife, who was actually at home. Almost one million hryvnias were paid through this scheme. The colonel, his wife and the commander of the medical company have already been notified of suspicion, as reported by the State Bureau of Investigation.
According to the investigation, in June 2022, the colonel went to eastern Ukraine to perform combat missions, while his wife stayed at home. In July 2023, he entered into an agreement with the commander of a medical company to formally ‘employ’ his wife in a military unit. Although she did not actually serve, on the basis of false documents, she received monthly combat payments, the total amount of which reached almost UAH 1 million.
The suspects are charged with embezzlement of property on an especially large scale (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and the commander of the medrota is also charged with forgery of official documents (Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The charges provide for up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
