SBU Head Vasyl Malyuk may leave his post: Oleksiy Honcharenko

The Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, has agreed to leave his post. It is expected that the Verkhovna Rada will consider the issue of his dismissal in the near future, and the head of the Special Operations Center “A” Yevhen Khmara will probably become the temporary acting head of the special service.

According to information, during Saturday’s meeting with the president, Malyuk initially refused to resign or transfer to work at the SVR or the NSDC, explaining this by the need to complete several large-scale operations. However, as noted, in the end, he decided to submit a resignation letter, motivating it with the words:

“To escalate the situation with the president means harming the state”.

People’s Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko confirmed the fact of writing the statement and noted:

“At Zelensky’s request, Vasyl Malyuk wrote a letter of resignation from the post of head of the SBU”.

The politician also reported that General Yevhen Khmara will most likely be appointed acting head of the SBU. Malyuk himself has not yet commented on these statements.

The exact date and procedure for the resignation, which requires a vote by the Verkhovna Rada, will be determined in the near future. As previously reported, MP Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, spoke out against Malyuk’s dismissal, emphasizing that there is currently no alternative for him. Commanders of strategic units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also expressed support for the head of the SBU amid reports of his possible resignation.
