South Korean opposition demands second vote for impeachment

In South Korea, opposition forces are again demanding a vote to impeach President Yoon Seok-yeol, as the previous vote did not yield results. About this informs Reuters.

Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung said impeachment is the “most effective way” to restore constitutional order after the six-hour martial law. Lee Jae-myung criticized the statement by the president, who had previously promised to “fight to the end”, calling it a “war against the people”.

The opposition, which has a majority in the parliament, is initiating impeachment proceedings for the second time. For its successful adoption, it is necessary to secure the support of at least eight deputies of the ruling “People’s Power Party”. In the event of a positive decision, the issue will be referred to the Constitutional Court, which must decide the fate of the president within six months.

In addition, Yoon Seok-yeol has come under fire for claims that North Korea was allegedly involved in the hacking attack on the National Election Commission last year. However, the president did not present any evidence to support his words.
