Sweden to provide Ukraine with radar reconnaissance and early detection aircraft

Sweden has announced its readiness to strengthen military support for Ukraine, starting with the transfer of radar reconnaissance and early detection aircraft, and does not rule out the possibility of supplying Gripen fighters in the future. This was stated by Swedish Defense Minister Poul Jönsson before a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels.

As part of the second support package, prepared jointly with Norway and Denmark, Sweden has allocated 250 million euros and is considering additional delivery options. At the same time, special attention is paid to the fair distribution of the financial burden between the Nordic and Baltic countries, which, according to the minister, is crucial for effective assistance to Ukraine.

At the first stage, it is planned to transfer radar reconnaissance and early detection aircraft to Ukraine. This will allow Ukrainian forces to better coordinate the actions of F-16 fighters, strengthen the air defense system and increase its effectiveness.

In the future, Stockholm is ready to consider the possibility of supplying Gripen fighters. At the same time, Jonsson stressed that controlling several types of aircraft at once — F-16, Mirage and Gripen — will be a serious challenge for Ukrainian pilots. Despite this, the transfer of Gripen can significantly strengthen the combat capabilities of Ukrainian aviation and air defense. The dialogue on this issue is ongoing, and Kyiv is demonstrating significant interest in the new aircraft.
