The Armed Forces of Ukraine received a new trailed gun “Bogdana-B”
Artillery brigades of Ukraine received a new mounted 155-mm cannon of Ukrainian production “Bohdana-B”. About this informs press office 47 OABr.
The gun was created on the basis of the artillery part of the self-propelled installation “Bohdan” and the carriage from the Soviet gun “Hyacinth-B”. The Bogdan-B prototype was first presented publicly in late 2023, and development is known to have been ongoing since at least December of that year.
The trailed version does not replace the self-propelled “Bohdan” installation, but complements it, allowing to quickly provide artillery units with powerful and long-range weapons. Compared to self-propelled artillery systems, towed guns have a number of advantages: they are cheaper to manufacture, easier to maintain and have higher survivability on the battlefield.
According to estimates, the cost of “Bohdan-B” is about 1.5 million dollars, while the self-propelled version costs about 2.5 million dollars.
As noted by the executive director of the Ukrainian Council of Armourers, Ihor Fedirko, the production of artillery parts for the “Bohdan” self-propelled guns is significantly ahead of the supply of foreign car chassis, which limits the number of ready-made systems. Switching to a trailed version is one of the solutions to this problem.
The use of carriages from Soviet “Hyacinth-B” guns, which returned to storage bases due to barrel wear and ammunition shortages, is economically feasible. This allows you to quickly increase the number of new artillery systems and reduce the cost of their production. The cannon has retained the barrel length of 52 calibers and weighs more than 10 tons. The “DaewooNovus” heavy-duty truck is used for transportation.
