The Center for Countering Disinformation has refuted fakes about “contaminated food from Ukraine” in Poland

A wave of fake messages about Ukrainian products has intensified in Poland. Social media users are spreading allegedly “dangerous” goods from Ukraine, calling for a boycott of products with the code 482 – standard barcode for Ukrainian products.

As reported by the press service of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCP), these manipulative publications are based on isolated cases when some batches of products did not meet quality standards.

“Such fakes parasitize on real cases when individual batches of products – not necessarily from Ukraine – do not pass quality standards. But propagandists deliberately generalize individual incidents to create a false impression of the “total danger” of Ukrainian products”, – noted the CPD.

The department also emphasizes that Polish state institutions regularly inform citizens about specific products that do not meet standards, regardless of the country of origin. Therefore, the statement about “poisonous” Ukrainian products is a classic example of disinformation.

“Manipulation with code 482 – part of the anti-Ukrainian campaign that has intensified in Poland since the start of the full-scale war. Its goal is to undermine trust between Ukrainians and Poles, sow hostility between the two peoples, and increase pressure on Warsaw’s political decisions to support Ukraine. This is fully consistent with the goals of the Kremlin’s information policy in Poland, the CPD added.
