In Odesa, the police, together with the SBU, exposed the commander of one of the military units for bribery, who for seven months demanded money from subordinates. The perpetrator was arrested at the scene of the crime. About this informs police of Odesa region.
According to the law enforcement officers, the commander demanded 30% of the additional cash payments for the performance of combat missions, explaining this by the needs of the military unit, in particular for the repair of equipment. Those who refused to pay, he intimidated with artificial obstacles in the service: invented shortcomings in work, unjustified transfers to other units or combat zones.
From June to December last year, the commander collected more than 400,000 hryvnias from military personnel. He was detained while receiving another “contribution” for December in the amount of 41,000 hryvnias.
The military officer was charged with 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. For this, he faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property. The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail. The investigation is ongoing.
