The court confirmed Trump’s guilt in the scandal with payments to a star

A New York court has rejected a request to overturn a jury’s verdict that found Donald Trump guilty of falsifying financial statements during the 2016 presidential campaign. About this informs Financial Times.

Judge Juan Mercan rejected arguments by Trump’s defense that cited a Supreme Court ruling on the president’s immunity for acting within the scope of his official duties. The ex-president’s lawyers argued that this principle should be extended to the case of payments that are considered bribes.

Prosecutors responded by emphasizing that the charges relate to events that took place before Trump took office.

“Trump is likely to appeal this decision and has called the criminal cases brought against him a politically motivated witch hunt.”– says the message.

It will be recalled that in May of this year, a New York jury found Donald Trump guilty of falsifying expense reports related to the payment of $130,000 to porn actress Stormy Daniels for keeping quiet about an alleged intimate relationship with him.
