The former head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry was elected as the new OSCE Secretary General
Former Turkish Foreign Minister Feridun Sinirlioglu has been appointed as the new Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). About this reported on the organization’s official website.
Sinirlioglu’s appointment was approved during the meeting of the OSCE Council of Ministers in Malta. In addition, personnel changes in three more key positions were announced. Legal Advisor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Maria Telalyan, headed the Bureau for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.
The Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the OSCE, Christoph Kamp, has been appointed High Commissioner for National Minorities, and the representative of Norway, Jan Braathu, will now be responsible for media freedom.
The OSCE Chairman-in-Office and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta, Jan Borg, noted that the consensus on these appointments shows a common commitment to the principles and values of the OSCE. He emphasized that the organization remains a key mechanism for addressing complex global challenges, including conflict, climate change and promoting democratic resilience.
In 2025, the chairmanship of the OSCE will pass from Malta to Finland, which will be the next stage in the development and implementation of the organization’s goals.
