The General Staff officially recognized the problem of the SZC and named the main reasons for this phenomenon

The Armed Forces of Ukraine decided to increase the period of basic military training of recruits from one month to one and a half months. This change is aimed at reducing the number of cases of voluntary desertion among servicemen. About this told Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Anatoliy Bargylevych.

The Lt. Gen. recognized that the problem of SZH is significant for the Army and pointed to its root cause. In his opinion, this is the psychological unpreparedness of individual recruits for service.

“There are different types of people serving in the army. Some endure hardships better, while others are less psychologically prepared.”, — noted Barhylevych.

According to him, the extension of the training period will enable servicemen not only to better adapt to the service, but also to receive better training for combat missions.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a draft law that allows those who voluntarily left or deserted to return to the service. This creates an opportunity for their rehabilitation and return to the ranks of the Armed Forces. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, almost 90,000 cases have been opened on the facts of voluntary abandonment of military units and desertion.
