The government summed up the results of the first year of operation of the Ukrainian maritime corridor
During the year of operation of the corridor, more than 2,300 ships entered Ukrainian Black Sea ports, and the volume of transported cargo exceeded 64 million tons.
At a government meeting on August 16, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal summed up the results of the first year of operation of the Ukrainian maritime corridor, which was opened a year ago, despite Russia’s attempts to block Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea. About this informs Government portal.
Shmyhal noted that the blockade was aimed at increasing economic pressure on Ukraine and creating threats to global food security. The opening of the sea corridor became an effective response to these challenges.
During the first year of the corridor’s operation, more than 2,300 ships arrived at Ukrainian Black Sea ports, and the total cargo turnover exceeded 64 million tons, of which almost 44 million tons were grain.
According to the Ministry of Reconstruction, the largest volumes of cargo were transported in December 2023 (4,921,000 tons of grain and 1,893,000 tons of other cargo) and in February 2024 (5,206,000 tons of grain and 2,657,000 tons of other cargo).

The Prime Minister emphasized that such successes contributed to the growth of exports: in the first half of 2024, the physical volumes of exports of Ukrainian goods increased by 35%, which made it possible to return to pre-war indicators.
Shmyhal emphasized that these achievements were made possible thanks to three key factors: the effective operation of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Black Sea, the implementation of a unique initiative on military risk insurance for merchant ships, as well as the restoration of Ukrainian port infrastructure. He also reminded that food security is one of the 10 points of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s peace formula, which was supported by the participants of the International Peace Summit in June.
