The government will not raise the minimum wage this year: Shmyhal

There are no plans to raise the minimum wage in Ukraine in 2025. About this reported Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during the “Question Hour for the Government” in the Verkhovna Rada.

“This year’s budget does not provide for an increase in the minimum wage”Shmyhal noted.

The head of the government clarified that the minimum wage will remain at the current level. According to the Law “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2025”, from January 1, it amounts to 8 thousand hryvnias. The refusal to increase is related to Ukraine’s obligations to international partners, in particular within the framework of the memorandum with the International Monetary Fund.

People’s deputy Bohdan Kitsak, in turn emphasized, that in the memorandum with the IMF, as well as in the documents of the World Bank, a condition has been established, according to which Ukraine refrains from increasing the minimum wage, as this may affect the forecast indicators of budget revenues.

“Formally, this figure (minimum salary of 8,000 hryvnias) is fixed, because in the memorandum with both the IMF and the World Bank it is stated that we will not take any steps regarding the increase of the minimum salary, which will affect our forecast indicators of the budget’s profitability.” – he explained.

According to the deputy, the growth of the “minimum” would lead to an increase in expenses for the wages of public sector workers — in particular, teachers, doctors, employees of state enterprises and civil servants.
