The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine recorded more than 150 cases of executions of Ukrainian military personnel who were captured by the Russian army. About this informs GUR press office.
The number of such cases on the battlefield continues to grow. Many of them had direct orders to liquidate prisoners. These actions, as noted by intelligence, are not isolated manifestations of cruelty, but indicate a systemic policy pursued by the leadership of the aggressor state — the Russian Federation.
This tendency is also confirmed by the UN Independent International Commission to Investigate the Situation in Ukraine. In a report dated March 19, 2025, the commission noted an increase in the number of cases in which the Russian military purposefully killed or maimed Ukrainian fighters who had already surrendered or were trying to surrender.
“Several Russian deserters confirmed that they received orders not to take prisoners, but to kill them. One of them cited the words of the deputy commander of the brigade: “Prisoners are not needed – shoot them on the spot.” – says the document.
The UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, Dr. Morris Tidball-Binz, indicated the level of responsibility for these crimes:
“They wouldn’t happen with such numbers and frequency without an order – or at least the consent – of the highest military command, which in Russia means the office of the president.”
The GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine emphasizes that for every war crime committed against the Ukrainian people, there will be a just responsibility.
