The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation denied Putin’s statement about the presence of Russian troops “10 km from Sumy”

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andriy Kovalenko refuted Vladimir Putin’s statement that Russian troops are allegedly 10 km from the city of Sumy.

“10 km to Sumy, according to Putin, is a lie. He said a lot of stupid things yesterday, but regarding the city of Sumy, since the spring of 2025, the Russian Federation has not advanced at all. And they are more than 20 km from the city of Sumy, our SOU soldiers have thwarted their plans in that direction. The enemy continues to attack Sumy from the air, but there is no talk of an attack on the city at all. Putin is a classic liar who is given false reports,” Kovalenko emphasized.

The Kursk Group of Forces reported that the situation in the North Slobozhansk direction in the Sumy region remains steadily tense, but without enemy breakthroughs.

“The enemy continues to use the tactic of infiltration across the line of combat contact by small groups, and in some cases even by single soldiers. The enemy has not conducted and is not conducting any massive assault operations. The Russian army has not achieved any noticeable tactical, let alone strategic, achievements in this direction,” the Kursk Group of Forces noted.

They also stated that Russia’s reports of a “large-scale offensive” on Sumy do not correspond to the real situation on the battlefield. Earlier, on June 28, Putin claimed that Russian troops supposedly had just over 10 km left to Sumy, and from 2.5 to 5 km to Kupyansk.

Therefore, Ukrainian official sources deny the advance of Russian troops towards Sumy and claim that there have been no breakthroughs in this direction.
