The longest bread: a 143-meter-long baguette baked in France (video)

The Guinness Book of Records has added another entry. On Sunday, May 5, a team of 18 bakers in the French city of Suren, a western suburb of Paris, baked a baguette 143.53 meters long. The long-iron bakery product was prepared during an event organized by the Confederation of Bakers and Confectioners of France.

“It takes real spirit and collective sportsmanship to make the longest handmade baguette. Bread is the engine of productivity, our baguette is an integral part of our gastronomic heritage,” he said. Dominique Anract head of the Confederation of Bakers and Confectioners of France.

Baguette of record sizes

The record holder baguette weighs 152 kilograms. 90 kilograms of flour, 60 liters of water, 1.2 kilograms of salt and 1.2 kilograms of yeast were needed for its preparation.

According to the rules of the “Guinness Book of World Records”, a baguette – a symbol of France, recognized all over the world – must be at least 5 centimeters thick and made exclusively from wheat flour, water, salt and yeast.

After measuring the baguette, the record holder was cut into pieces and distributed to the homeless.

Previous record

The previous record in this category was set five years ago. Then bakers from Como (Italy) prepared a baguette about 130 meters long.

Other bread records

If we talk about simple bread, the record belongs to the Portuguese. In 2005, a loaf more than a kilometer long – 1211.6 meters – was baked here. One hundred bakers spent more than 60 hours on its preparation.

The longest pita bread was baked in 2008. The record was set in Qatar. The length of the pita giant was 128.5 meters.

As for sweet pastries, the world’s longest braided bun was baked in 2010. The record was set by bakers from Denmark. The length of the braid was 20.7 meters, and the bun weighed 17.6 kilograms.
