The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Hungary to stop manipulating the “Christmas truce”

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine urged Hungary to stop manipulations on the topic of peace and Christmas and to abandon unilateral contacts with Russia.

The statement of the Ukrainian diplomatic service emphasizes that Hungarian officials are once again making statements about their ability to stop the war, but such words have no connection with reality.

“The actions of the Hungarian side are even more distant from peacemaking than its statements. Hungary consistently calls to leave Ukraine, which is defending itself against Russian genocidal aggression, without weapons for self-defense, prevents financing of strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, increasing sanctions pressure against the aggressor, and other critically important decisions. All it has nothing to do with the desire to restore peace”, the statement says.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasized that it is Russia and its leadership that is the main obstacle on the way to peace. Kyiv, on the other hand, remains committed to the principles of honest dialogue and partnership with those who truly seek an end to the war on fair terms, and not the victory of the aggressor.

We will remind you that earlier the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, announced the initiative regarding the “Christmas truce” and the exchange of prisoners of war, claiming that he had addressed this issue to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The Office of the President of Ukraine denied this information, stressing that there were no such negotiations with Budapest.
