The Ministry of Justice initiates the process of confiscating the assets of former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and his son

On May 6, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine filed a lawsuit with the High Anti-Corruption Court to impose sanctions on former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov and his son Oleksiy Azarov. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice.

This concerns the seizure of assets belonging to the Azarovs to the state. Among them are real estate and land plots in Kyiv and Kyiv region, cash, corporate rights, books, icons and jewelry of material and historical and cultural value.

Mykola Azarov was the Prime Minister of Ukraine under the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych from March 2010 to January 2014. After the Revolution of Dignity, he left Ukraine. While in Russia, Azarov publicly questioned the legitimacy of the new Ukrainian government and provided informational support for the Russian Federation’s actions aimed at annexing the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Olexy Azarov, who was a People’s Deputy of Ukraine from the Party of Regions, left Ukraine after his father’s resignation from the post of Prime Minister in January 2014. In Russia, Oleksiy Azarov has an extensive business.

In 2023, Ukraine imposed sanctions against Mykola Azarov, and in December 2025 he was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison.
