The National Bank published an annual report on the state of Ukraine’s financial infrastructure

National Bank of Ukraine made public annual Financial Market Infrastructure Oversight Report for 2024.

“Despite the continuation of the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, we ensure the continuous, reliable and efficient functioning of the infrastructure of the financial market, as well as carry out proper and effective oversight of the payment infrastructure and the infrastructure of the capital markets”, – emphasized the director of the Department of Payment Systems and Innovative Development of the National Bank Andriy Poddyeroghin.

According to the report, 32 payment systems operated in Ukraine by 2024, including the SEP interbank settlement system, seven card payment systems, and 24 money transfer systems. In the capital market, there are two subjects of central depository accounting – the National Depository of Ukraine and the NBU depository, as well as the central counterparty of PJSC “Razakhunkovy tsentr”.

One of the key events was the introduction on December 1, 2024 of the updated version of the SEP, which allows for instant credit transfers — funds are credited to the recipient’s account in no longer than 10 seconds.

The report also states that the number of issued payment cards in Ukraine has increased to 132 million, of which 58.8 million are actively used. International payment systems Mastercard and Visa retain the leading positions — with shares of 51.5% and 48.2%, respectively.

The share of non-cash payments grew especially dynamically – in the total number of transactions, it reached 94.6%, and in the monetary equivalent – 64.5%. The volume of transfers within the country through money transfer systems increased by 83.6% compared to the previous period and amounted to UAH 1,336.6 billion. More than 90% of such transfers were made through three main systems: PrivatMoney, NovaPay and “Finansovy svit”.
