The Presidents of Ukraine and Romania signed a number of documents on strategic partnership between the two countries

On March 12, during an official visit to Romania, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his Romanian counterpart, Nikusor Dan, signed a number of documents regulating the partnership between the two states. The signing took place during a joint press conference following the bilateral meeting in Bucharest, broadcast by Suspilne and Rubryka.

The documents provide for framework agreements on cooperation in the energy sector and a statement of intent on joint production of defense products. In addition, the leaders of Ukraine and Romania signed a declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership between Kyiv and Bucharest.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine, together with Romania, is starting the construction of two new power transmission lines that will provide electricity to the Chernivtsi region and other regions.

He stated this during a joint press conference with Romanian President Nicusor Dan in Bucharest on March 12, 2026. According to Zelensky, Kyiv and Bucharest are actively working to expand cross-border energy cooperation.

“We are building two new lines for electricity supply with Romania. The work is starting, this can support our regions, in particular the Chernivtsi region, and this will allow Romania to become stronger in terms of guaranteeing energy security in our part of Europe,” Zelensky noted.

The President emphasized that the project is mutually beneficial for both states, and on March 12 a document was signed regulating the construction of interconnectors.

“We have signed a very important interconnector project, we will build two interconnectors. This is a different volume of electricity… energy security for Ukraine. One interconnector is small, the other is large. We want, “so that the first one is ready by the end of the year, the mood is still positive,” Zelensky stressed.

In addition, the presidents signed a number of documents on partnership between Ukraine and Romania. On the morning of March 12, Zelensky arrived in Romania to meet with Nikusor Dan, and on March 13 he will leave for Paris.
