The Russian army has occupied 752 square kilometers since the beginning of the year: ISW
According to a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Russian army occupied about 752 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory in 2024. This figure is significantly different from the statement of the Minister of Defense of Russia Andriy Belousov, who claimed to have captured 880 square kilometers.
ISW analysts point out, that although Russian troops achieved some success in the north of the Kharkiv region in early May, Belousov greatly exaggerated the overall results of the Russian offensive since the beginning of the year.
ISW Key Findings:
- The US and Germany allowed Ukraine to use their weapons to strike Russian territory with certain restrictions.
- Ukrainian troops struck Russian military facilities in Crimea and the Krasnodar Territory.
- Ukraine has signed security agreements with Sweden, Iceland and Norway.
- Russia is trying to rally the CSTO countries around the confrontation with the West.
- Ukraine and Russia exchanged prisoners of war.
- China refused to join the peace summit regarding Ukraine.
- Russian troops advanced near Vovchansk, Avdiivka and Donetsk.
