The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine named the border sections with the highest activity of illegal crossings

Ukraine’s borders with Moldova and Romania remain the most active areas for illegal crossing attempts. However, the total number of such cases is decreasing, which is connected both with weather conditions – cold and snow, and with the strengthening of control measures. About this told spokesman of the State Border Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko.

“On the border with Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, there are much fewer such cases, but there are also attempts”, – said Demchenko.

Demchenko noted that illegal crossing attempts are recorded both at “green” border areas and at checkpoints, and most of them take place outside checkpoints.

One recent case demonstrates the risks that illegal immigrants take. According to Demchenko, the organizers of the scheme took money from the men who were supposed to be taken across the Tisza River, convincing them that the place was chosen correctly. However, a powerful current swept them away, and only thanks to the fact that the fugitives were able to cling to the snags and reach a small island, the tragedy was avoided. From there they called the rescuers.

Law enforcement officers continue to regularly expose members of criminal groups who help conscripted men cross the border illegally.
