The State Emergency Service of Ukraine received an innovative system for remote mine detection from the UN

The UN Development Program in Ukraine handed over the innovative Mines Eye aerial reconnaissance system for remote mine detection to the State Service for Emergency Situations. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Economy.
This is a modern unmanned technology created by Ukrainian developers that uses sensors for remote detection of mines and other explosive objects. It significantly increases the efficiency, accuracy and safety of the demining process. Mines Eye was developed by a team that participated in the first Demining Bootcamp and subsequently repeatedly participated in the testing of sensor technologies within the framework of UNDP and Ministry of Economy initiatives.
“Innovation is the future of humanitarian demining. We see how literally in a year and a half, projects that were at the level of ideas are already successfully surveying hundreds of hectares of fields. And they are doing it so well that the State Emergency Service, whose experts have been working with the system in experimental operation mode for several months, are buying it with the support of UNDP and funding from Luxembourg. It is a win-win situation, because the emergency workers received modern equipment for surveying the fields, and the innovators understand that their developments are in demand.” – noted Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Ihor Bezkaravainy.
The technology combines magnetometry with high-precision aerial and infrared imaging to survey large areas. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the system is able to identify the remains of explosive objects, in particular anti-tank mines, even if they are hidden under vegetation. Mines Eye creates detailed maps and analytical reports on detected anomalies, which allows you to efficiently plan further demining activities.
“Ukraine’s technological ingenuity, strengthened by international support, is helping to change the very approach to humanitarian demining. Our priority is clear: to ensure access to land, restore livelihoods and support Ukraine’s recovery through technological, coordinated and evidence-based solutions. Thanks to such tools, we can return land to communities faster and more safely, providing protection to those in need. Humanitarian demining is not only about demining, but also about restoring security, rebuilding lives and developing economic potential”, – said UN Deputy Secretary General Haoliang Xu.
Over the course of five months, sappers of the State Emergency Service, trained under the UNDP program, surveyed more than 360 hectares of territories with confirmed or potential mine danger in the Kharkiv and Mykolaiv regions — one of the most mined regions of Ukraine.
“Mines Eye is a smart solution that allows you to survey dangerous areas quickly, accurately and without risk to people. The system can detect threats in areas where it is too dangerous to work manually. We are grateful to international partners for their support – not only here and now, but also in building long-term solutions that restore safety step by step, meter by meter.” — stressed the first deputy head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Vitaliy Myronyuk.
The Mines Eye system will be integrated into the operational activities of the State Emergency Service and will be used throughout the territory of Ukraine to support humanitarian demining, in particular in areas with difficult terrain, limited access or a high density of mine contamination.
