Through the “Diya” app, Ukrainians have issued over half a million permits to own weapons
Ukrainians have already issued more than 550 thousand electronic permits for weapons through the state application “Diya”. The service, which launched in March 2025, quickly became one of the most popular digital services for citizens. This was reported by the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov.
According to the head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, obtaining a permit now takes only a few clicks on a smartphone, and the document itself automatically appears in the application. In addition, users receive push notifications in advance about the expiration of the permit.
Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized that the transition to the digital format of permits completely eliminates the need for paper documents that can be lost, forgotten at home, or forged. All information is stored electronically and has a high level of protection.
Each electronic permit in “Diya” contains complete data about the weapon, its technical characteristics, as well as a QR code for quick verification of the validity of the document. If the owner has several weapons, all permits can be added to the application at the same time.
“Diya” also displays permits that have expired or have been canceled, provided that the corresponding information is available in the register. The user independently decides whether to leave such documents in the list or delete them.
Separately, the application provides the ability to order an extract from the Unified Register of Weapons. To do this, you no longer need to visit offline institutions or use third-party services. Submitting a request takes about 30 seconds, and the obtained extract will be available within 24 hours with the possibility of re-ordering if necessary.
Also, “Diya” has introduced automatic notifications about the approaching expiration date of the permit. This allows weapon owners to contact the online service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs — “Single Window for Citizens” — in advance to extend the document.
Electronic weapons permits have become available in “Diya” since March 10, 2025. Previously, such permits were issued in the form of a paper book, in which entries were made manually. Now users can instantly generate a digital document, view complete information about their weapons, and check the current status of the permit directly in the application.
