Turkey and the USA signed a Memorandum on Strategic Nuclear Cooperation

The governments of Turkey and the USA signed a Memorandum on strategic cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy. This was reported by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Alparslan Bayraktar.

The document was signed by Bayraktar and US Secretary of State Mark Rubio. During the signing, the presidents of both countries were present — Donald Trump and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who met that day at the White House.

“We have started a new process that will further deepen the multi-year and multi-dimensional partnership between Turkey and the United States of America in the field of nuclear energy”, said the Turkish minister.

Within this agreement, the US can participate in the construction of nuclear power plants in Turkey. Currently, the Russian company Rosatom is building one station in the south of the country. The memorandum became part of a package of agreements concluded during Erdogan’s visit to the United States. Among them is a $43 billion deal to import American natural gas and a contract to supply hundreds of passenger planes to Boeing.
