Two cars exploded on mines in the border area of ​​Zhytomyr region: there are dead and injured

Two cars hit mines in the border zone of Zhytomyr region. Five people died and three more were injured as a result of the explosions. This was reported by the Zhytomyr region police.

“It was previously established that in both cases, local residents drove into mined areas, arbitrarily changing their designated routes. In the first case, police established that local residents were driving UAZ cars along the state border to carry out planned deforestation. They changed their route and drove past warning signs on the ground. The car hit an explosive device, causing an explosion, the report said.

Five men aged 19 to 65 died as a result of the explosion. Two more victims, aged 25 and 40, received injuries of varying severity.

On the same day, another explosion occurred in the forest. According to preliminary police information, a 55-year-old and a 32-year-old resident of the Korosten region were transporting timber in a ZIL car and hit a mine. The younger man was injured and hospitalized. The police are investigating all the circumstances of the incident.

Law enforcement officers reminded citizens of the danger of being in border areas where warning signs are installed: “Stop! Mines!”. They urged not to visit forest areas in the border zone of Zhytomyr region, in particular within 30 kilometers of the state border, where there is a ban on the movement of civilians.
