Ukraine is counting on 4,000 volunteers from among the prisoners in the first wave of mobilization
The Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denys Malyuska said that he expects to replenish the ranks of the Armed Forces by at least 4,000 people in the first wave of mobilization of prisoners. According to him, these volunteers will be sent to amphibious assault brigades, which means their participation in the hottest points of the front.
This is reported The Washington Post.
“Under the new law, prisoners eligible for the amnesty program can only be assigned to airborne assault brigades, which could mean their participation in face-to-face combat with Russian forces. This restriction reflects the most urgent needs of Ukraine.” – quotes the American edition of the minister’s words.
Malyuska emphasized that the motivation of the prisoners who decided to defend the country is very high. For them, this is not only a chance to be released, but also an opportunity to “turn the page” and prove their loyalty to Ukraine.
According to the minister, the prisoners will serve in specially formed units under the leadership of military personnel. This will ensure the efficiency of their use and minimize risks.
It will be recalled that Malyuska previously reported on the possibility of recruiting up to 10,000-20,000 prisoners to the ranks of the Armed Forces on a voluntary basis.
