Ukraine is losing speech therapists due to mobilization and emigration
Due to the mobilization and mass emigration of citizens, Ukraine faced the loss of about a third of its able-bodied workforce. This led to an acute shortage of specialists in many areas, including speech therapy.
This is stated in the material of TSN.
Over the past year, the number of speech therapists in the country has decreased by several dozen. This means that at least 500 children with speech disorders are left without the necessary specialist to support them.
In one of the districts of the capital, an acute shortage of specialists capable of correcting a child’s speech was recorded. Parents are forced to master the technique themselves to correct the situation.
Speech therapists, especially those dealing with the most difficult cases, are leaving the country faster than new ones are being trained. Also, many students who go abroad stay to work there and do not return to Ukraine, which also causes an acute shortage of personnel in all areas.
Every year, the number of specialists decreases. This applies not only to speech therapists, but also to other professionals.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the demand for psychologists and psychiatrists has increased several times. Actually, with medicine, we see an increase in the number of vacancies in some places by 60-70%, as compared to a full-scale invasion, – says WORK.UA editor Yevgenia Kuzenkova.
According to her, the most serious shortage is observed in the medical field, as well as among labor professions, where mastery of skills requires a significant amount of time. This is due to the fact that more and more people prefer to work in the online sphere, where long-term training is not required.
The situation with a shortage of personnel is also complicated by the fact that many Ukrainians who have gone abroad do not plan to return to the country.
This may lead to serious problems in the future, because without qualified specialists, Ukraine will not be able to develop.
The government should take measures to solve this problem. In particular, it is necessary to stimulate the return of Ukrainians from abroad, as well as to create conditions for the training of new personnel.
