Ukraine plans to increase gas imports by 30%

Following Russian attacks on gas infrastructure, Ukraine is working to increase natural gas imports from other countries by 30%. This was announced by the Minister of Energy Svitlana Grynchuk after a meeting with representatives of the G7+ group.

According to Grynchuk, the main purchases are planned for October-December, but the possibility of importing in other months of the heating season is also being considered.

“We plan to increase imports by about 30% if we manage to expand our import capacity”, the government official explained.

She reminded that for the purchase of gas in Ukraine, a loan of 500 million euros was raised through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and another 300 million euros – through the European Investment Bank.

“We have just discussed the possibilities of expanding these credits, and with some countries we are discussing the possibilities of providing assistance on a grant basis to increase the import of natural gas”, added Grynchuk.

Hrynchuk noted that the volume of imports will be determined by how quickly it will be possible to restore gas production in Ukraine, what will be the intensity of Russian attacks and what damage they can cause to the gas transportation system.
