Ukraine strengthens air defense with two Patriot complexes
Ukraine has strengthened its air defense system with two more Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, which have already been put on combat duty to protect cities and critical infrastructure. The arrival of the weapons was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and confirmed by Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal. The transfer of the systems was the result of agreements reached in December 2025 during negotiations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The supply is being carried out by Germany as part of a military assistance package worth over 1.2 billion euros. In total, Berlin plans to allocate 11.5 billion euros to support Ukraine in 2026.
The Patriot complexes received are designed to cover large cities, energy facilities and civilian infrastructure from attacks by cruise and ballistic missiles, which allows reducing the consequences of Russian attacks. According to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the systems have already been integrated into the general air defense network.
