Ukrainian athlete wins gold in mass start-60 at the Junior World Championships

The Ukrainian national team has added to its medal tally with the highest award thanks to Oleksandra Merkushyna’s successful performance at the Junior World Biathlon Championships.

In On Friday, March 6, a mass start race for junior women at a distance of 6 km took place in Arber, Germany. Ukraine was represented in this type of program by Oleksandra Merkushyna, Tetyana Tarasyuk, Ksenia Prykhodko and Polina Putsko. It was Merkushyna who became the best among the “blue and yellow” and managed to win the gold medal of the world championship.

The Ukrainian biathlete made three misses on the shooting lines, but showed the best result – 29:17.1. The silver medal was won by the representative of Lithuania, Estere Volfa (1+2+0+1), who was 19.9 seconds behind, and her compatriot, Elsa Bleidele (0+3+1+0), finished third, 36.9 seconds behind.

Other Ukrainian athletes finished the race outside the top twenty. Tetyana Tarasyuk took 21st place (0+2+0+0+1), Polina Putsko became 22nd (0+1+1+1+0), and Ksenia Prykhodko finished 27th (0+1+2+2+1).

Earlier, the winner of the small Crystal Globe in the individual race, which is awarded based on the results of performances in this discipline at the seventh stage of the Biathlon World Cup, was determined.
