Ukrainian banks financed the restoration of more than 1 GW of energy capacities
Ukrainian banks financed business projects to restore electricity generation with a total capacity of 1.026 GW within the framework of the memorandum on financing the restoration of energy infrastructure. This was reported by the National Bank of Ukraine.
According to the bank survey, 402 MW of energy storage and heat production business projects were also financed between June 1, 2024 and September 1, 2025.
In general, during this time, banks provided financing for energy restoration in 21 regions of Ukraine for 27.1 billion UAH. Of this amount, more than 2,000 business loans amounted to UAH 25.5 billion, and more than 10,000 loans to the population amounted to UAH 1.6 billion. As of September 1, the gross portfolio of “energy” loans for legal entities, taking into account their repayment, reached UAH 17.9 billion, and for individuals — UAH 1.3 billion.
Currently, the energy sector is identified as one of the priority sectors within the framework of the Credit Development Strategy developed by the National Bank together with the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture and the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine. Within this strategy, the National Bank has introduced a number of measures to intensify lending in priority sectors.
In particular, in order to stimulate energy financing, the requirements for credit risk assessment by banks were revised and the coefficients for taking into account the value of energy equipment when accepting it as collateral for the relevant loans were increased.
