Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Emmanuel Macron discussed strengthening the air defense of Ukraine
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the strengthening of air defense and the expansion of the US and NATO initiative to accelerate the supply of weapons to Ukraine (PURL).
“Informed about our priority needs, and this is primarily air defense – the necessary systems and missiles. Russia is now taking advantage of the moment – the fact that the Middle East and domestic issues in each country receive maximum attention. Russian strikes have become more nefarious. They discussed how to counteract this. In particular, we are working to expand the PURL” program, Zelenskyi noted.
The presidents also agreed on further contacts with other partners and diplomatic steps in the coming weeks.
“We are working to put more pressure on Russia”, Zelenskyy added.
We remind you that the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) initiative was launched by NATO and the USA in August 2025. The first package was financed by the Netherlands for $578 million, the second by Denmark, Norway and Sweden for $495 million, the third by Germany for $500 million, and the fourth by Canada for $500 million.
Delivery of the first two packages began in mid-September. In addition, the US is finalizing the filling of the third and fourth packages together with Canada and Germany. The purpose of the PURL initiative is to ensure the rapid delivery of weapons and systems that can be purchased in the United States. This should strengthen the defense capability of Ukraine and create the prerequisites for a just and lasting peace.
