Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that he is ready to leave the post of president after the end of the war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that his main goal is to stop the war, and that he is ready to leave office after peace is achieved. He told this in an interview with Show Axios.

The head of state emphasized that he does not intend to remain president in peacetime and plans to appeal to the Verkhovna Rada with a request to organize elections as soon as a ceasefire is established.

“My goal is to end the war, not to continue to run for office”, Zelensky emphasized.

He also clarified that during a meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, he discussed the possibility of using the period of silence to give a signal to the parliament about holding elections.

According to Zelenskyi, security issues and the requirements of the Constitution of Ukraine complicate the organization of the vote, but he considers it quite real. The president admitted that society can wait for a new leader with a renewed mandate, capable of making the decisions necessary for long-term peace.

Let us remind you that on September 24, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that elections in the country are possible only under the conditions of a ceasefire and security guarantees.

“We only need security to hold elections. We are ready. If there is a ceasefire, we can hold elections. Even if it is difficult according to our Constitution. We can. With security guarantees from our partners, of course, the president explained.
