Without funding from USAID, the work of the commissions for the selection of the ESBU head and judges has stopped

Due to the suspension of the American Agency for International Development (USAID), the activities of a number of commissions participating in the selection of judges and heads of law enforcement agencies, including the head of the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB) and judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court (HCC), have stopped. About this reported Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration – Minister of Justice Olga Stefanishyna.

“Now that one of our key donors (USAID, – ed.) has temporarily stopped working, a number of commissions that select representatives of the judicial corps, law enforcement agencies have also temporarily stopped working, contracts have been terminated, and we have to put this puzzle together again.” Stefanishyna said.

She specified that among such bodies are the Ethics Council, the Public Council of International Experts, the Commission for the Selection of the Head of the BEB, as well as the Commission for the Selection of Judges of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

At the same time, Stefanishyna assured that negotiations with European partners are currently ongoing, and the official position of the European Commission and the G7 countries on resuming the work of tender commissions is expected in the coming days.

We will remind that at the end of January, USAID suspended the financing of all programs and projects in Ukraine for 90 days in connection with the directive of the US State Department on the audit of foreign aid.
