Zelenskyy appointed Zaluzhnyi as Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi appointed former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ambassador of Ukraine to Great Britain Valery Zaluzhny Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Valery Zaluzhnyi will perform the duties of the representative of Ukraine at the IMO, combining this position with the work of the ambassador to Great Britain.
“To appoint the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Zaluzhny Valery Fedorovych as the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on a part-time basis”, says the decree.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is an intergovernmental structure that is a specialized agency of the United Nations. Its activities are aimed at eliminating discriminatory practices in the field of international commercial shipping, as well as at developing maritime safety standards and measures to prevent environmental pollution by ships.
It will be recalled that on February 8, 2024, Zelensky dismissed Zaluzhny from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. On March 7, Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the candidacy of Valery Zaluzhny for the position of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
