Zelenskyy called the suspension of the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine “one of Moscow’s biggest defeats”

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi stated, that as of January 1, the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe was stopped, and called it “one of Moscow’s biggest defeats.”

“When Putin was given power in Russia more than 25 years ago, the annual pumping of gas through the territory of Ukraine to Europe amounted to 130+ billion cubic meters. Today, the transit of Russian gas is 0. This is one of the biggest defeats of Moscow.”, – emphasized the president.

He emphasized that using energy resources as a weapon and blackmailing partners deprived Russia of access to the most convenient and attractive market.

“Considering the circumstances, the absolute majority of European countries have successfully adapted to such changes. Today, our common task is to support Moldova in the period of energy transformation. We also have to endure the hysteria of some European politicians who prefer mafia schemes with Moscow instead of a transparent energy policy.”, — noted Zelensky.

The President also expressed hope for an increase in the supply of American gas to Europe.

“The more gas there is on the market from Europe’s true partners, the sooner the last negative consequences of European energy dependence on Russia will be overcome”, – concluded the head of state.
