Zelenskyy instructed to obtain US consent on Patriot for Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelenskyi commissioned to obtain agreement from the United States of America on the provision of Patriot systems to Ukraine.

According to Zelenskyi, during the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Headquarters meeting, he listened to the report of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umyerov.

“The most important issue today is air defense. The supply of air defense systems to Ukraine, the supply of missiles for air defense. Our agreements with our partners. Contracts. Our readiness to produce air defense in Ukraine and negotiations regarding licenses. There were reports from the military and government officials.” – said Zelensky.

The President noted that he instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work on obtaining the appropriate consent from the United States.

“Patriot agreements for Ukraine. We are ready to buy the necessary number of Patriot systems for our country. This is not about charity. We have proposed specific options for the agreement to protect our people. I instructed diplomats to work more actively on the Patriot response,” – said Zelensky.

Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems are critical for Ukraine, as they are capable of destroying Russian ballistic missiles. At this time, Ukraine largely depends on the support of the United States in the supply of air defense systems that can effectively counter this threat. At the beginning of April, Yuriy Ignat, head of the communications department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported that currently only American Patriot systems are capable of effectively intercepting ballistic missiles.
