26 million was spent on the purchase of chickens and ducks abroad

The volume of live poultry imports to Ukraine increased by almost 20% in terms of value. During the first four months of 2024, 1.3 thousand tons of chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, guinea fowl and other poultry were imported into the country.

It is worth noting that the volume of poultry imports has practically not changed, compared to the indicators of January-April 2023. However, the cost of imports has increased. According to the reports of the State Customs Service, Ukrainian importers paid 25.8 million hryvnias for poultry imported from abroad. This is 18.9% more than was calculated for the same period last year.

Germany is currently in first place in terms of poultry imports to Ukraine. Almost a third of all imported poultry (29.7%) was imported from Germany in four months. Also, Hungary (23.7%) and Poland (22.7%) were included in the list of the largest importers of chickens, ducks, geese and other poultry to Ukraine.

During the first quarter of 2024, the poultry population in Ukraine increased by 2.2%. The number of pigs also increased by 3.3%. The volume of poultry meat production in the country increased by 5.8% last year.

“Producers of livestock products in Ukraine almost completely supply the domestic food market and the processing component of the industry. In 2023, the average annual volume of meat consumption in Ukraine per person amounted to 54.7 kilograms for the minimum norm of 52 kg. The consumption forecast for 2024 is 53, 9 kg. A decrease in beef consumption is expected. Despite this, we are recording an increase in the population’s demand for pork and poultry meat,” says Olena Dadus, head of the Department of Agrarian Development.
