A list of countries where young people from the occupied territories will be able to obtain documents has been determined
Ukraine is launching an experimental procedure for obtaining documents for citizens from temporarily occupied territories, in particular for young people who have not yet had a Ukrainian passport. The first step will be to apply to certain foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine.
The new mechanism was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga. According to him, the procedure should eliminate the shortcomings of the previous procedure, according to which it was difficult to obtain a Ukrainian passport in practice.
“From now on, Ukrainians who were born in the temporarily occupied territory and have never had Ukrainian passports will be able to apply to our embassies and consulates to obtain an identity card for returning to Ukraine. The card will be issued free of charge. With this document, they will be able to return to Ukraine and subsequently issue a Ukrainian passport in the form of an ID card and a foreign passport,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga.
The issuance of an identity card for return to Ukraine involves simplified confirmation of identity. This can be done on the basis of the testimony of a capable family member who is a citizen of Ukraine, including remotely via video link.
You can contact the embassies of Ukraine in Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Turkey and Kazakhstan, as well as the consulates general of Ukraine in Istanbul and Antalya.
The new procedure should help citizens who, due to the temporary occupation, were unable to obtain Ukrainian documents to legally return to the territory controlled by Ukraine and subsequently issue passport documents.
