Customs tests mobile scanners with artificial intelligence at the border with Poland

Four mobile scanning systems from the American manufacturer Varex Imaging have started operating at key sections of the Ukrainian-Polish border. They are currently operating in test mode, but should soon be fully operational. The State Customs Service reported this on March 19 on its official website.

The use of these mobile systems will expand the possibilities for detecting hidden goods and, accordingly, strengthen the fight against customs violations.

The main feature of the new complexes is the integration of artificial intelligence for image analysis. Innovative software automatically detects potential risks and anomalies, which allows you to reduce the impact of the human factor and increase the accuracy of customs control.

In addition, the equipment is universal and can effectively scan both trucks and cars and minibuses. This makes it possible to flexibly apply the systems depending on the structure of the traffic flow.

At the moment, the new mobile systems are used at the checkpoints “Yagodyn”, “Rava-Ruska” and “Krakivets”. After the reconstruction at the Shehyny checkpoint is completed, the scanning system will also be put into operation at this site.

“The use of mobile scanning systems will allow to speed up customs control and clearance procedures. Due to high mobility and scanning speed, the time for checking vehicles is significantly reduced, which will help increase the throughput capacity of checkpoints, especially in conditions of increased load,” the customs service reported.

Varex Imaging Corporation equipment is used in more than 150 countries around the world. The supply of these systems took place within the framework of an agreement between the governments of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland on the provision of a loan on the terms of tied assistance.
