Fierce fighting in Vovchansk, Ukrainian troops are trying to isolate the invading Russian units

Fierce fighting is raging around the city of Vovchansk as Ukrainian troops try to isolate Russian units that have advanced across the nearby border.

Fierce battles are taking place at the aggregate plant on the northern outskirts of Vovchansk, military bloggers from both sides of the conflict report.

The commander of the Ukrainian detachment, Stanislav Bunyatov, described the situation in Vovchansk as “difficult but under control” and said that Russian troops were “surrounded”.

“Our guys do not lose their positions, periodically conducting successful assaults, vacating positions and pushing back the enemy”Bunyatov wrote in Telegram.

Last month, Russian troops launched multiple crossings across the border in a multi-pronged attack that the Kremlin said was designed to create a buffer zone that would prevent Ukrainians from attacking Russian cities such as Belgorod.

At first, they occupied several border villages and advanced to the outskirts of Vovchansk, which Ukrainian troops retook in September 2022 after several months of occupation.

DeepState, a Ukrainian monitoring group, says that small groups of Russian soldiers repeatedly tried to defend the aggregates plant, but were repulsed by Ukrainian forces.

Assuming that resupplying Russian soldiers has become more difficult, DeepState says food and water are being delivered to them using drones.

The video, geolocated by CNN, shows Ukrainian drones shelling the plant in recent days.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Defense of Russia stated that “the troops improved the situation on the front line and destroyed the manpower and equipment” of the Ukrainian troops in the “areas of the settlements of Vovchansk, Synelnikove and Vovchanski Khutory” of the Kharkiv region.
