Fugitive People’s Deputy Dmytrouk was detained in London
Fugitive Ukrainian deputy Artem Dmytrouk was detained in Great Britain, after which he was brought to court. This is what Dmytruk himself said reported in your Telegram channel. According to him, the Ukrainian authorities demand his extradition to Ukraine.
“After that, a court session was held as part of this process. I will say one thing – I will stay in touch with you”, – said Dmytruk, without providing other details.
Earlier, in a comment to the British publication The Independent, Dmytruk explained that he was forced to leave Ukraine because of his position regarding the law banning the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC). He also stated that he will challenge his return to Ukraine in court.
According to the publication, Dmytruk, who is a deacon of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UPC MP), plans to prove at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court that he is a “victim of political persecution” by the Ukrainian authorities because of his support for his religious community.
“Now there is a political persecution of me and my family, against me for my political views and support of the UOC-MP”, he said.
Dmytruk is known for his participation in a propaganda film created by blogger Anatoly Sharyi, who is suspected of treason. In the film, Dmytruk justified the actions of armed pro-Russian activists during the events of May 2, 2014 in Odesa, when they tried to seize power in the city. Also, on May 9, 2020, he took part in a rally organized by the “Sharia Party”.
On August 25, there were reports that Dmytruk had fled to Moldova, where, according to him, Ukrainian special services were preparing suspicions against him. He claimed that this was an attempt to deprive him of the right to political activity.
We will remind that Dmytruk was also involved in several scandals in Ukraine. In Kyiv, he beat a passerby who made a remark to him. Earlier, in 2021, he was expelled from the Servant of the People faction, and at the beginning of 2022, Dmytruk got into a fight during a meeting of the Land Commission of the Odesa City Council.
